From the recording Senior Privilege
Lyrics
Class of ’76
Class of ’76
Class of ’76
Oh, Class of ’76
South Boston mornings, moving through the halls
Dr. Venable making rounds, coffee cup and all
Five minutes between classes, better make it through
Blue Slip if you missed it, everybody knew
Mobile units in the heat, but the A/C made them gold
Assemblies meant freedom, at least that’s what we were told
Nearly six hundred strong, ready for what came next
Halifax Senior High, Class of ’76
We thought the world was waiting
Somewhere past those doors
Funny how the things we hurried through
Are the things we treasure more
Halifax Senior High
Class of ’76
South Boston, Virginia
Yeah, we still remember this
Comet Blue forever
Tuck-Dillard, 3:10
Fifty years later
Here we are again
Senior privilege
Oh, what a time it was
Halifax Senior High
Class of ’76
Mark and Marvin under Friday night lights
Country Owens on the hardwood making everything right
Ridgway and Sizemore running records into time
Coach Starnes on the football field, keeping everybody in line
Coach Crittendon courtside, Coach Martin on the track
Those were the names and the moments that still bring us back
Short shorts, tube socks, everybody knew the look
And those blue gym jumpers nobody wants back in the book
Halifax Senior High
Class of ’76
South Boston, Virginia
Yeah, we still remember this
Comet Blue forever
Tuck-Dillard, 3:10
Fifty years later
Here we are again
Senior privilege
Oh, what a time it was
Halifax Senior High
Class of ’76
Anne out front, the Comettes in line
Flags in the air and the band right on time
Robert Wall had halftime moving like a show
Then “The Horse” kicked in and everybody knew
Snowball got canceled when the weather shut us down
Topsy-Turvy came around and turned the whole place upside down
Exams came back senior year, nobody loved that twist
Budget cuts had students standing up and raising fists
Then April came and finally
The seniors got their say
Lunch beyond the schoolyard
Five minutes shaved away
We thought the privilege was leaving
Getting out before the rest
But fifty years can teach you
What seventeen could never guess
The real privilege was being there
The friends, the halls, the blue
The Friday nights, the songs, the dreams
And all we lived through
Halifax Senior High
Class of ’76
South Boston, Virginia
We still remember this
Comet Blue forever
Tuck-Dillard, 3:10
Fifty years later
We’d do it all again
Senior privilege
Now we know what it was
Halifax Senior High
Class of ’76
Class of ’76
Comet Blue
South Boston
Three ten
Senior privilege
We thought the privilege was getting out that door
Turns out the privilege
Was having it at all
Halifax Senior High
Class of ’76
